In dressing for the meeting and its associated events, please note that the idea is to be comfortable. During April in Portsmouth, temperatures fluctuate between cool and warm with a breeze off of the Elizabeth River. We suggest you bring a light jacket. Many of the sidewalks in Olde Towne Portsmouth are historic brick with some unevenness. We recommend comfortable walking shoes if you plan on venturing outside of the hotel to explore the surrounding areas. Below is a guide on typical attire.

Sunday

The Executive Board Meeting is casual – jeans, khakis and polo shirts – as most of the Board arrives just in time for the meeting.

The Welcome Reception and the ABD Hospitality Rooms are also casual dress events as most people have only arrived and checked in. The Welcome Reception will be held outdoors (weather permitting) and may require a sweater or jacket.

Monday

The conference is business casual. For men that ranges from sport coats and dress pants to khakis and polo shirts. For women that ranges from dress pants or skirts and jackets, to khakis and polo shirts.

For the spouse tour, wear comfortable walking shoes and casual clothes. This is a bus tour with limited walking.

The ABD Event will be a business casual affair. The Nauticus Museum is large, so wear comfortable shoes so you will want to walk through all of the exhibits. Transportation to the museum will be by paddleboat.

Tuesday

See Monday for dressing for the conference.

For the spouse tour, see Monday.

The Annual Banquet is a coat and tie event for the men. For the women, there is a broader range. Some wear business suits, while some prefer to wear cocktail attire. Wear whatever suits you.

Wednesday

As most people will be traveling this day, it is not unusual to see people in jeans and tennis shoes.
